The Lamarsh Lion has been busier than expected on several occasions in the last few weeks.
First, we had the superb fireworks display on bonfire night, all donated by Ruth Allison in memory of her late husband, John who loved fireworks displays. He would have been very happy had he seen what was provided and so were the 400 or so villagers and others who also enjoyed hot dogs, burgers and jacket potatoes as well as the singing from Hannah Louise and the cosy wood fire in the grate. Over £400 was raised for Essex Air Ambulance and the party went on till late.
A number of Shoot lunches and Christmas parties have also been booked and these are very welcome.
Several more events are planned in the leadup to Christmas and the New Year and the postponed Scandinavian Evening will now be held in late January or February 2019.
We have also decided to open up the back room in the “barn” which will be home to a Pool Table and dart board. This will be much appreciated especially by the younger generation and we hope to establish teams to compete in the various darts and pool leagues. The Pool Table has been generously donated by Russell Haldane and Ruth Allison very much with children and grandchildren in mind.
The Committee has also been thinking about longer term plans for the whole site. Initial plans have been drawn up which will be available in the Lion and we welcome comments and suggestions on how our ideas can be improved. A principal concern is to address the shortage of overnight accommodation in the area. Chalets at the rear of the property would provide a valuable further income stream but will need planning permission and a substantial capital outlay. Grants for much of what we have in mind are available. We envisage this to be a two-year project and will be subject to Shareholders’ approval.
